What we do

The Daisy Garland charity was set up in November 2004 to keep Daisy's memory alive and to help other little children like her.

We fund an increasing number of Ketogenic Dietitians who work in National Health Hospitals treating hundreds of children with intractable epilepsy.

We are the only UK charity funding Ketogenic Dietitians - each dietitian costs up to £47,000 per annum. If you think you could help us fund our next Daisy Garland Ketogenic Dietitian go to HOW YOU CAN HELP. Be in touch today.

Mia's Story

Mia is five years old and lives in Wales. She has been on the ketogenic diet for almost a year and this is what her parents Chris and Em have to say,

“Mia was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was seven-months-old, and over the following three years tried eleven different anticonvulsant drugs, none of which controlled her seizures. She failed to acknowledge anything, developmental tests placed her around three months and she spent most of the day just staring. When Mia was four years old we were referred to see Nicol Clayton, a Daisy Garland Ketogenic Dietitian at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, and this is where a much happier story unfolds…On day two of the ketogenic diet Mia’s seizures vanished! We are now nearly a year into the diet and only see mild seizures when she has a temperature or is unwell. Mia will be five in April and is a completely different little girl to the one we knew pre-diet. Mia is learning to sit up, is full of smiles and has gone from being the quietest in the class to the loudest! We are very excited at the prospect of new developmental milestones being reached and we can’t help but think how amazing it is that a natural dietary treatment has succeeded where modern medicine failed.

We can’t thank The Daisy Garland enough, without their support we honestly don’t know where Mia would be. P.S. We live in Wales where there is no provision for this diet. Please consider placing one of your wonderful dietitians here!”

Response from The Daisy Garland: Chris and Em, there is a massive need for this service in Wales and we are doing everything in our power to fund a Daisy Garland Ketogenic Dietitian there. So watch this space!!
