Glut1 Deficiency Syndrome

Glut1 is a rare metabolic disorder which causes seizures and other neurological problems. This genetic condition, affecting approximately 2,000 people worldwide, affects brain metabolim caused by impaired glucose transportation. The standard treatment for Glut1 is the ketogenic diet which helps patients with most symptoms. The diet, low in carbs with moderate protein and high in fat produces ketones which can be used by the brain when glucose is limited.
